East China University of Technology
Ø History and Specialty
East China University of Technology (ECUT), originating from Taigu Geological School and was established in 1956. As a state defense institution and the first college in nuclear industry in China, ECUT has enjoyed a history of over 60 years with fine reputation in research and education. In 1958, the school moved to Fuzhou and later to Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. Presently ECUT is jointly run by Jiangxi Government and China Atomic Energy Association (CAEA), the Ministry of Natural Resource (MNR), China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC).
Since its establishment, ECUT has focused its education and research in the field of Nuclear Science and Geology Science, with the relevant disciplines developed gradually. Based on the featured disciplines ECUT has developed into the fields of Geological Tourism, Geological Economy, Geological Chemistry, and Geological Environment etc. So far, ECUT has extended its education and research to engineering, science, language, management, economy and arts, among which 3 doctoral program, 71 master programs and 72 bachelor programs, forming more than 20 schools and research centers.
Thanks to the persistence in the traditional disciplines, Geology, Chemistry and Electronics are ranked as the provincial top disciplines and funded by the government, leading to a further development of the university.
Ø Mission and Orientation
ECUT aspires to be an internationally recognized, comprehensive university that contributes to the country’s development and the peaceful nuclear utility in the world. Our mission is to develop fundamental science through advanced technologies and to nurture talents and leaders in the field of national and world nuclear and geological industry. The mission of serving local economy through talents and technology remains as a focus cause in the development of our university.
Our research and education is oriented to the innovation of technology and contribution to the country and the world. The university contributes to the advancement of society through research, creative activity and the development and dissemination of new knowledge.
Ø Campus and Location
ECUT has 2 campuses located in
Ø Students and Staff
ECUT has a team of over 2,800 full time staff, including over 200 professors. Three of them are entitled as Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering or the Foreign Academician of Russian Academy of Science and some professors are granted other national or international distinguished titles due to their education or research achievements. Half of the faculty at ECUT possesses doctoral degrees, forming a high qualified teaching and researching team. For these, ECUT has developed several groups of experts carrying out national and international important projects focusing on the frontiers of fields of Geology, Geophysics, Hydrogeology, Chemistry, Material and Electronics etc.
We also have a group of highly qualified foreign teachers and experts from around the world, including the United States, Canada, Australia, Russia, England, Ireland, South Africa, Japan, India and many other countries along the “Belt and Road”, all of whom interact with students and teachers on a daily basis and take part in extracurricular activities.
There are around 23,000 students with cultural diversity studying on the campuses. Students come from all over
Ø Facilities and Research
ECUT believes that the teaching and the research must be combined and mutually depended in a university. Therefore, ECUT launches large budget on the facilities and encourage the staff to carry out research programs. So far, there are 19 national and provincial laboratories have been established, i.e. State Key Laboratory of “Nuclear Resources and the Environment, CAEA Key Discipline Laboratory of “Radioactive Geology and Exploration Technology”, Science Ministry’s International Cooperation Base of “Earth Environment”, Education Ministry’s Engineering Research Center of “Nuclear Technology”, Reference Laboratory of IAEA, National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of “Radioactive Geology”, etc. Besides, there are two training centers----Uranium Geology and Isotope Hydrology Advanced Training Center of IAEA, and Overseas Uranium Resources Exploration and Development Personnel Training Center, etc. More than that, we have an international joint construction research platform “Mass Spectrometry Science and Instruments”, employing quite a few foreign scholars including American and Russian Academicians and Nobel Prize winner doing research here. The university believes in an open way of education, and thereby frequent academic communications are carried out with a great many overseas universities and research institutes from more than 20 countries like America, Russia, Japan, Australia, Ireland, etc.
With a history of more than 60 years, and an open attitude to innovation, ECUT presents a great potentiality in scientific research. Every year, great achievements of various levels are reached by the staff or institutions, with over 1000 papers published and accepted by SCI issues. Dr. Tang Bin was awarded the 2nd Class of The State Scientific and Technological Progress Award in 2017 and other honorable awards from National Defense Department. Teachers carry out many National Social/Natural Fund Projects, showing great research and education potentiality in relevant research field. In addition, ECUT carries out many international projects supported by IAEA or foreign institutions. Our achievements are also granted various awards, covering National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology, National Bureau Awards, Provincial Awards, etc.
Ø Technology and Equipment
ECUT provides convenient facilities for the students and staff, assisting their study and work on the campuses. All campuses are inter-connected with advanced computer networks and its high speed Wi-Fi access is supported by dedicated fiber optic cables connecting offices, classrooms, as well as student and teacher dormitories. To make learning even more convenient, ECUT has built two libraries; each campus has one of its own. All of our libraries are open to students and faculty members alike with large collection of books, journals and online-libraries. In addition, each department has its own specialized library, housing a large collection of materials within its discipline. ECUT also has one of the largest Geological Museums in the country and a Uranium Deposits Exhibition Hall, both popular places for students to visit.
Ø Internationalization and Globalization
ECUT endeavors to pursue mutually beneficial partnership with reputable international educational organizations and research institutes. Through memoranda of understanding and agreements, the university's network of collaborations spans the globe. The linkages with our valued partners creates a great many opportunities for dynamic and fruitful exchanges of intellectual knowledge and collaborative teaching and research activities. Currently, we are in good partnership with different universities around the world, including Purdue University, State Polytechnic University(Pomona), Castleton University, Athlone Institute of Technology, Dublin Institute of Technology, Massey University, HAMK University, Asian Institute of Technology, Orio Aishin Junior College, University of Free State, etc., covering US, Ireland, Finland, Japan, New Zealand, Canada, German, South Africa, etc. Moreover, we offer a rich array of Global Programs for both incoming international exchange students as well as outgoing students. Besides the cooperation with international universities, ECUT also invites a variety of foreign teachers and experts to research and teach on our campuses under the programs from State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs. Some of the foreign experts are awarded of Jiangxi or state Government Friendship Awards. Thanks to its facility and excellence in nuclear science, ECUT has close cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). We host IAEA projects and training programs with the attendance of academic conferences annually. Recently, ECUT endeavors to enroll foreign students to study on the campuses, offering full English courses in doctoral and master degree programs and partial English courses in bachelor degree programs.
Under the international context of globalization, in the new era ECUT will be more open and highlight on the BRICKS and “Belt and Road Initial” cooperation programs with more contribution to the world.
