International Joint Research Center for Mass Spectrometry and Instrumentation is a national Research Center approved by Ministry of Science and Technology of China serving national and local development needs. The center aims to be at the frontier of mass spectrometry, reaching a series of high-level original scientific research achievements which are highly appraised by international counterparts.

2007: Organic Mass Spectrometry Research Group was founded
2009: Modern Mass Spectrometry Laboratory was founded
2010: Jiangxi Key Laboratory for Mass Spectrometry and Instrumentation was established
2012: Jiangxi Higher Institutes’ High-level Laboratory for Mass Spectrometry and Instrumentation was constructed
2013: Yangtze River Scholars of Ministry of Education and Innovation Team of Its Development Plan was selected
2013: Jiangxi 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center for Mass Spectrometry and Instrumentation was constructed
2014: Jiangxi Precision Instrument Manufacturing Technology Research Center was constructed
2014: Jiangxi Academician Workstation for Mass Spectrometry and Instrumentation was constructed
2014: Jiangxi Demonstration Unit of Recruiting Foreign Intelligencewas constructed
2015: Ministry of Education Research and Development Center for NMAC International Joint Laboratory Equipments was constructed
2015: International Joint Research Center for Mass Spectrometry and Instrumentation was constructed
2016: National Demonstration Unit of Recruiting Foreign Intelligencewas granted by State Bureau of Foreign Experts Affairs
2017: Institute of Development Studies on Civil-military integration was constructed
2017: Russian Research and Development Center for Mass Spectrometry and Instrumentation was constructed
2017: Innovation and Intelligence Introduction Base of Mass Spectrometry and Instrumentation was constructed
2018: Center for International Transformation Studies on Direct Mass Spectrometry and Accurate Diagnosis was constructed
Our center mainly studies on basic theories of direct mass spectrometric analysis of complex matrix samples, its instrumentation design and application. We innovate the direct mass spectrometry analysis system, and accelerate the new varieties of instruments in the world, forming a full-chain innovative system in the field of mass spectrometry and instrumentation. The system, known as opening a new field of clinical chemical analysis,consists of four successive procedures, that is, basic theory study, instrumentation design, application and demonstrative promotion.
Facilities and Staff
Our center covers4500 m2 and owns many advanced scientific facilities which are valued at more than 45 million Yuan. These facilities are LTQ-XLLiquid Chromatography-mass Spectrometry, LTQ Orbitrap XLLiquid Chromatography-mass Spectrometry, GC-TOF-MS, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer(500 MHz), etc.
We have established several national and international scientific platforms, such as International Joint Research Center for Mass Spectrometry and Instrumentation, and Innovation and Intelligence Introduction Base of Mass Spectrometry and Instrumentation. We have also constructed several provincial scientific platforms, for example, Jiangxi Key Laboratory for Mass Spectrometry and Instrumentation, Jiangxi Higher Institutes’ High-level Laboratory for Mass Spectrometry and Instrumentation, and Jiangxi 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center for Mass Spectrometry and Instrumentation. The national and provincial scientific platforms provide support to the center for its innovative progress.
Besides the facilities, we have 35 full-time researchers majoring in Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Science, Materials Science, Organic Chemistry, Biology, Mechanoelectronics, and Automation respectively. We also have over 30 part-time researchers working in our center. 24 of our full-time researchers have PhD degrees and 13 are professors with national honors including two full-time foreign expert professors. In regard to part-time researchers, the center mostly recruits academicians, renowned scholars, foreign professors and youth researchers with national honors.
Our laboratory has completed over 70 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and international organizations. We have 54 national licensed patents, 26 of which are invention patents, including two American invention patents. Some of our achievements have generated important and far-reaching impacts all over the world.Our researchers have been invited to attendsignificant international academic conferencesand have mademanykeynotespeeches. We have published more than 300 high-level papers internationally and nationally, including two papers inNat. Protoc., three papers in Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., three papers in PNAS, and 33 papers in Anal. Chem.16 of the papers have been published as cover articles.In addition, our center has been granted some international and national awards for its prominent scientific achievements. These scientific achievements have been evaluated by Nature and a Nobel Prize winner, as well as been indexed by five international monographs, two Chinese monographs and two international textbooks.
Our center has developed long-term cooperation with many leading universities and institutes abroad, like Purdue University, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, and Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. We have invited many international distinguished scholars to lecture at as well as become Honorary Professors of our university.Our director Prof. Huanwen Chenwas invited to and appointed as Honorary Professor at the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation because of the Sino-Russian joint scientific achievements which is highly praised by the governmental officials of both countries. In addition, three foreign researchers with PhDs have been recruited and are making great contributions to their fields.
In 2018, the Center for International Transformation Studies on Direct Mass Spectrometry and Accurate Diagnosis, located in Ganjiang New District, has invented some innovative instruments which have been recognized internationally, like arapid screening and analysis system for cancerous tissues by direct mass spectrometry, rapid screening and analysis of trace toxicants by direct mass spectrometry. For supporting its instrument invention, this center basically formed two technical systems, namely, Life Safety system and Public Safety system of Direct Mass Spectrometry. Based on these innovative instruments and technical systems, we are striving to construct the Sino-Switzerland Precision Manufacturing and Technology Research Center, which will aim to improve China's precision processing level and serve the development of the emerging industries like aviation, traditional Chinese medicine, automobiles, and electronics in Jiangxi Province.
